The 30th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards were celebrated in style on April 1. While enjoying the spectacular views from the WorldView on Sixteen ballroom of the World Market Center, more than 450 guests were treated to a gourmet dinner created by Chef Phillip Pinkney and his faculty at the International Culinary Institute and donated by The Art Institute of Las Vegas. Governor Jim Gibbons presented each recipient this year’s award - a 360-degree panoramic photographic collage of the western landscape - created by Reno artist Scott Hinton. The evening was filled with music, dance and the spoken word, with presentations by poet Ellen Hopkins, the Nevada School of the Arts’ Violin Ensemble, the Thai Cultural Arts Association, the West Las Vegas Art Center Youth Performance Ensemble, Desert Skye Bagpipers and the Mariachi Nuevo de Las Vegas.
The success of this year’s GAA was ensured by the energy and support provided by so many, including the performers, recipients, volunteers, and of course, our co-sponsor Metro Arts Council of Southern Nevada.
We extend our profound appreciation to our generous donors The International Culinary Institute of The Arts Institute of Las Vegas, NV Energy, The Charles N. Mathewson Foundation, Las Vegas Design Center/World Market Center, Barrick Gold Corporation, The Smith Center, Cirque du Soleil, Southwest Gas Corporation, CarWil Engineered Wear Solutions, Kunder Design Studio, Arger-Martucci Vineyards, Little Church of the West, and dozens of individuals.
Congratulations to the recipients of the 30th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards:
Ellen Hopkins, Carson City - Excellence in the Arts
Thai Cultural Arts Association of Las Vegas - Excellence in Folk and Traditional Arts
Nevada School of the Arts, Las Vegas - Leadership in Arts Education
Patricia L. Harris, Las Vegas - Leadership in the Arts: Individuals

NV Energy, Statewide - Patronage in the Arts
Marcia Robinson, Las Vegas - Distinguished Service to the Arts
The Contemporary Arts Center is happy to announce that the Nevada Arts Council has awarded a one-time SNAP (Sustaining Nevada’s Arts Programs) Grant of $10,000 to pay the salary of its new Director, Wendy Kveck. The Nevada Arts Council distributed $250,500 in federal stimulus funding to 39 arts organizations throughout the state, helping to preserve jobs and arts programs in Fiscal Year 2010. Out of 61 grants reviewed, only 10 scored over 90%. Listed amongst those top 10 was the CAC, which scored 97% and received the top award of $10,000. This will be the largest single grant the CAC has yet to receive from any one funder or sponsor. The grant is a reimbursement grant, and is only to be used for salaries of key personnel.
