CAC Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition exploring the physical presence in painting. The exhibition introduces two emerging local artists, Eric Gecas and Ayako Ono. As a result of their unique underlying conceptual ideas the works presented by Mr. Gecas and Ms. Ono are visually very different, one using figures the other empty monochromatic spaces as their tool to examine physical presence in their paintings.
Eric Gecas moved to Las Vegas as a non-figurative sculptor and naturally his paintings are built out of a sculptural concern for physical presence. Mr. Gecas uses his wife and children as models. All of the figures in his paintings are life size or a little larger.
Ayako Ono’s series “Trains & train stations” deals with the loneliness in public places. Ms. Ono uses a multitude of blue hues, and only blue hues , to create the physical presence of loneliness and a feeling of isolation that leads to reconsidering one’s identity.
When the curator Beate Kirmse brought both artists together to collaborate in this exhibition Eric Gecas’ first comment was when looking at Ms. Ono’s paintings that “The only color I never use in my paintings is blue and this is the only color Ayako is using in her paintings, this is amazing.”
